When people ask me what I do, I tell them:

“I help productpreneurs grow their business.”

What I mean by this, is:

“I’m absolutely passionate about helping entrepreneurs to grow their brand into a household name, get their products into the hands of more peeps, and ultimately to build a lucrative empire around their innovative product.”

This is my zone of genius!

I believe that anyone can have a brilliant idea, to create their own innovative product. But not everyone knows how to translate that into a commercial success. That’s where I come in…

I’m Catherine Langman, and as you can probably guess, teaching product creators how to grow their business (whilst enjoying yourself as much as possible!), is kinda my sweet spot.

And because making up words is fun, I call all of us who design, create and sell their own product inventions, PRODUCTPRENEURS. (Write that down.)

How did I get good at this? You might ask… Perhaps you’ll indulge me in a little story telling?

Back in 2005, I became a mother for the first time.

My first son was a honeymoon baby and boy what a life-changer he was! I thought being a Mum (that’s Australian for Mom if you’re playing along from the other side of the globe) was the best thing since sliced bread – so good in fact that I had another son a year later.

There was absolutely no way I could go back to my previous career after that.

My background was in branding, advertising and digital marketing for blue chip corporate and government clients.

But the ethical dilemma of designing packaging for a tobacco company and the boredom of creating advertising for a bank drove me to seek a more professionally satisfying and family-friendly role.

So in 2007, feeling inspired by my gorgeous boys and in an effort to strike a balance between work and family, I started my own online business designing and manufacturing eco-friendly baby products and selling them online and through retailers.

Developing an online business was perfect for me.

Being completely location-independent allowed me to spend quality time at home with my children whilst nurturing and challenging my professional, creative and business interests, and, of course, generating an income for myself!

Commercialising your own invention, building a brand and an online business, is a process.

I was able to build my brand from zero, into one that was used by parents all over the world and stocked in retailers nationally. I also expanded my business operations into New Zealand and Europe and had stockists from Asia to Dubai to the Czech Republic and all sorts of places in between!

Probably the biggest accolade I received during this time was the Telstra Business Awards, which is like the Academy Awards for privately owned businesses in Australia! What a thrill to be recognised by some very illustrious high achievers!

Somewhere between signing on stockists in Dubai and launching in Germany, my third child (my daughter) was born. At the time, I told people I needed a new model for my products 😉 Jokes aside, and my family now complete, it really was such an amazing thing to have my business make money for me whilst I was spending time with my baby.
