Do you have a business growth mindset?
When you start your business, you’re exited and motivated to change the world.
Then, the realities of business set in… Things get hard and they don’t always go to plan. You’re at the mercy of platforms you can’t control and customers don’t always react the way you imagine they should…
In these moments, it’s easy to lose faith and assume – because it feels hard – that you’re not cut out for business.
Nothing could be further from the truth though. Business IS hard!
To push through the challenges and succeed in achieving your goals requires a rock solid business growth mindset. Here’s what I mean:
Have you ever experienced cash-flow issues or periods of low sales in your business?
(If you say “no” I probably won’t believe you. These things happen even in the most successful businesses!)
If you have, I wonder if this might be the problem.
Lately I’ve noticed a bit of an odd pattern:
1. Poor cash-flow or drop in sales causes panic.
2. This then causes a frantic effort to drum up some orders, through running a sale or other promotion.
3. Result = a lot less than awesome!
Why can it be that results suck when running a promotion in this situation? When many other times your results have been brilliant?
You get what you focus on
What you focus on the most increases. In other words, you get more of whatever you focus on.
So before you give your attention to something, ask yourself, “Do I want more of THAT?”
And this idea is actually backed up by some serious science. It’s called experience-dependent neuroplasticity.
Basically – our experiences, thoughts, feelings and actions, actually shape our brain and therefore our reality.
Don’t focus on what you lack
I see this play out over and over again. The business owner who focuses on what they don’t have (sales or cash-flow), operates from a position of fear.
Their focus is on what they lack – so all their focus and energy goes on what they’re missing. And they end up with the same lousy result.
You can have anything you want in life if only you help enough people get what they want
Legendary sales trainer Zig Ziglar said it best!
But it’s so true. If you focus on what you can give, only then can you have what you want. This is what a business growth mindset is all about!
Our focus must be on our WHY. Why are we in business? What is our business’s mission? What is it that we’re trying to do for our customers?
